Elevate your plant based meals with this crispy sage tofu recipe.

Ingredients

15 oz
(1) package of firm tofu
1 cup
breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp
nutmeg
1/2 tsp
garlic powder
1
handful fresh sage minced
1/2 tsp
crushed or ground fennel seed
1/2 tsp
rosemary fresh minced or ground
2/3 cup
cornstarch
2/3 cup
plant-based milk
1 cup
oil for shallow frying

Directions

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes

Food safety tips:

  • Wash hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Clean all countertops and equipment used for food preparation.
  • Gently rinse all produce under cool running water.
  • Use separate equipment for handling raw food and cooked food.

Instructions:

  1. If you want extra tofu firm, wrap it in a paper towel and place it between two plates. Then add something heavy on top for at least 30 minutes.
  1. Pat out the excess moisture and cut the tofu into cubes.
  1. In a bowl, combine the bread crumbs with nutmeg, garlic powder, and crushed or ground fennel seeds. Add the minced sage and rosemary and mix well.
  1.  Create a breading station with three shallow dishes: cornstarch in one, milk in the second, and the breadcrumb mixture in the third.
  1. Coat each piece of tofu in cornstarch first, then quickly in the milk, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture.
  1. Add oil in a skillet over medium heat until it’s about 1/2 inch deep, and wait until it is hot enough to sizzle. Place the breaded tofu in the skillet without crowding. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden and crispy. Remove from the skillet and place the pieces on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
  1. Serve warm or cool!
